Practice question - Gilroy

Source A, The Daily express, is a right leaning tabloid newspaper which links with Gilroy's theory of post colonialism. The media language used in source A highlights Gilroy's theory because the headline, "MIGRANTS WILL BE TURNED BACK TO FRANCE" is bold, harsh and portrays migrants as something that needs to be kept out and turned away. In addition the use of the strapline "Crackdown on the crossings after Pritti Patel gets tough over french 'failings'" suggests that stopping these migrants is a major problem and something that needs to be sorted out. The choices in the representation also support Gilroys theory as they present migrants in a negative way that communicates an ideology of seeing migrants nnot as individuals but as one group, not taking in personal feelings, this newspaper creates an us vs them feeling, seeing migrants as 'other' and different. the context of wonership and production further reinforces this theory, The Daily Ex...
