CONCLUSION - 1-2 Sentences

Both The Guardian and The Daily Mail covered Angela Rayners resignation, however they reported it in very different ways which reflect their political ideologies. Whether a newspaper is right or left wing will affect how news is produced, distributed and consumed in the UK.

The Guardian is a center-left leaning newspaper which means that they will produce this story to portray this event in a more labour supportive way, The Guardian use more formal and professional language when reporting on this event, calling it a 'crisis' and using a postive picture in their coverage. In comparison, The Daily Mail are a right wing, conservative newspaper which means that they are anti-labour and will show that in their newspaper, using intertextuality with 'nightmare on downing street' which creates more of a hostile production.

Both the Guardian and The Daily Mail distribute their news through multiple channels, such as websites, apps and social media as well as traditional newspapers. The Guardian distribute more long reads with extended political analysis, trying to distribute more of an in depth look at certain events such as Angela Rayners resignation. Contrastingly, The Daily Mail focus more on sensationalist headlines, and click-driven content, wanting people to be hooked with dramatic headlines rather than longer explanations. the mail constantly updates its websites and social media pages in order to engage with the maximum amount of readers. With print, The Guardian is a broadsheet newspaper meaning that they share large amounts of information, with analysis, whereas the daily mail are a mid-market tabloid, meaning they aim for more of an sensationalist front page, with an emotional appeal.

The Guardian target a younger, more progressive audience, who are usually more educated and interested in politics, this affects how news is consumed as people like this will read newspapers like the Guardian as their views are better represented by the guardian, they are likely to read full articles in order to grasp the whole story and be more educated on a certain topic. With the daily mail, they aim to target an older, conservative, anti labor audience who prefer to read headlines rather than the whole story.

In conlusion, polituicak context strongly affects how news is produced and consumed
