The role of the BBC as a PSB
- The BBC has to provide content for everyone in the country
- It does this by diversifying into channels: BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5Live, Cbeebies and BBC Bitesize
Radios 1 place as a PSB
- To entertain young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech, its target audience is 15-29 years old.
- It should offer:
- a range of new music
- support emerging artists - UK based especially
- provide a platform for live music
- News, documentaries and advice campaigns should cover areas of relevance to inform and educate young adults
- Broadcast at least 40 new documentaries each year to inform and educate
- Offer at least 2 major social action campaigns, supported across daytime output and online each year, together with a number of other initiatives
BBC RADIO 1 PLAYLIST
The radio 1 playlist is the list of songs that are played on radio 1, A list songs are played more frequently, B list less and C list even less, but still played.
- A list songs are played around 25 times a week
- B list songs are played around 15 times a week
- C list songs are played around 8 times a week
The choices on what songs are played is based off what is popular on social media.

The Brit list is also featured which pushes young, new British artists.

Surprising - lots of people stream music these days, less need for a radio, people dont like talking or adverts therefore choose to use Spotify, apple music or amazon music etc
Not surprising - everyone who uses a car will listen to the radio unless they manually turn it off or connect their own music
